Portfolio

I made a life changing decision to change careers since I moved to Canada.   I had 25 years of experience as a Caregiver with a love of designing graphics and web pages.  I decided in June to look into going to school to make my career a Graphic Designer/Web Designer.  I visited Canadian Business College and decided this was the school I would attend.  The program I chose is Marketing and Multi-media Design.  I started school on June 17 and it was the best decision I made.  Our instructor challenges us with the projects he assigns.  He keeps them real-world, what we may do when we gradate.  We are learning Adobe products.  My first program was Adobe Photoshop.  I enjoyed refreshing my memory on this program.  We had a couple of projects to create.  I would like to share these projects with you.

Chicago Skydeck Flyer

We had to do a flyer.  I chose Chicago's Skydeck, because I have been to the Skydeck and loved the experience.  In March, 2010, my husband and I met some friends from Michigan in Chicago and took them to the Skydeck.  The Skydeck is on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower.  This was an incredible experience and it is one I would revisit if I get the opportunity.  I would also recommend visiting the Skydeck if you ever get to Chicago.  It also reminded me of home.  I was raised about 2 hours from Chicago.  The transition to Canada has been difficult, but school has helped with the transition.

Magazine Cover and Back Cover

Another assignment was a magazine cover and back cover.  I chose Country Weekly, because I really enjoy Country music and wanted to share my love of Country music.  I have always been a big fan of Country music.  I remember going to country concerts as a teenager.  My favorite group was Alabama and I attended as many Alabama concerts as possible.  On my 25th birthday, a good friend of mine and I waited in line for 7 hours for tickets to an Alabama concert and we ended up with seats in the 5th row.

My Passion (Designing)

My first experience with designing was in 2002.  I got involved with an online gaming site called "Hardwood Euchre" and I ran Euchre tournaments.  We had the ability to decorate our tournament pages to attract players.  I wanted to be able to make my own pages.  I had a friend who wanted to do her own pages as well.  We got together and began to search for tutorials for HTML.  We found a site called "Web Tech U"  They had tutorials for many areas of HTML, including forms and frames.   We both enrolled and started a journey to learn HTML.  There were also tutorials for CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).  I took all the possible tutorials, I wanted to learn the language to make pages.  My first page was for my boyfriend at the time (now husband).  I had written some poems for him and wanted to share them with everyone.  I  also put together a page for my family.  My nephews joined the army and we had pictures take...
